Hello friends! Welcome back! If you are new, welcome to my blog. In this post, I want to share a very special birthday celebration. Today, I got to celebrate with one of my best friends. We celebrated her 35th birthday and let me tell you, it was an amazing experience, to say the least. You see, since Covid hit, I have not seen much of my friends. I guess you can say I have isolated myself from family and friends these last couple of years. This year, however, I have made an effort to accept every invitation I receive from my loved ones. I honestly feel that I have missed so much time away from them and want to somehow make up for the lost time. I know there is really no way to bring back time but being able to say "yes" after turning down so many parties and social events feels great. With that said, today I felt absolutely grateful showing up for my friend and being a part of this special day.
I will briefly share a little background about this lady whom I adore so much. It all started during our high school years about 20 years ago. We met in gym class and quickly became best friends. She was funny, sweet, kind, and had such a big heart. She was definitely a one-of-a-kind girl. She was the girl who you could tell all your secrets to because you knew they were safe with her. She was just what my young teenage heart needed. Of course, like any other friendship, we had our ups and downs, but the ups were definitely greater than the downs, which is why our friendship passed the test of time.
Fast forward to today, here we are, at the age of 35, still celebrating life together. Here I am, still admiring the wonderful person that she is. As the years go by, I realize that the teenage girl I once thought was a wonderful friend, has turned into an even greater sister at heart. Yes, she has become like a sister, sharing so many life events with me. From being at each other’s wedding, to holding each other’s kids, sharing recipes and dinner ideas, and venting over everyday life struggles, life has been better with her by my side.
Now, let me tell you, it hasn't all been rainbows and butterflies. We still have our differences and sometimes we are more distant than others. One of the struggles I have faced since becoming a mother has been staying connected with friends. I admit that I get so caught up with the daily tasks of motherhood that I forget to think about my need for socialization. Although some might not believe this, I do have the need to stay connected and nourish these relationships with my loved ones. During this season of my life, however, it has definitely been a challenge. Are any of you other moms in the same boat? Maybe it's just me. Or maybe it’s the fact that all four of my kids have been very clingy and require so much of me that I am left without any time to take care of other important things in my life. Maybe it’s because I have been breastfeeding back-to-back since I had my first child nine years ago and that alone takes up so much time and energy. Does anyone else feel the same way? Does anyone else feel like their days are spent feeding and entertaining little humans non-stop? It is constant go-go-go which makes having friends challenging at times. However, moments like today remind me of how lucky I am to have my forever friends. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that not only did I spend time with the birthday girl, but another one of our best friends was also there which made this day even better. Yes, today was a wonderful day. We laughed, sang, took lots of pictures, ate cake, and celebrated this wonderful woman whom I call my best friend forever.
Here is a picture of the really cute poster she made displaying some of Britney's iconic outfits along with the cake she made, which let me tell you, was delicious! As you can see, birthday girl had a Britney Spears inspired themed party. Everyone dressed like Britney and some even wore blonde wigs. I think to say the party was a success is an understatement.
